Studying abroad often entails extra costs, so financing is an important part of your preparations. Does the course provide eligibility for student financing? Are there scholarships available?

Studying abroad is often more expensive than studying in Sweden. In addition to accommodation costs, there are expenses for travel, phone calls, insurance, different fees arising from the application and possibly tuition fees. You can get student financing from CSN (Swedish Board of Student Finance) for studying abroad – both for an exchange student or if you travel independently.
There is a difference between travelling on an exchange programme or doing so independently. For example, exchange students do not pay tuition fees, and you often receive some type of scholarship. If you travel independently, it is up to you to apply for scholarships or other methods of financing in addition to student financing from CSN.

Swideen's Visa Requirement for Nigeria

All applicants must apply in person at the nearest Embassy of Sweden . Information below is for reference purposes only. Please address all questions to the Embassy of Sweden directly.

To apply for a travel visa to Sweden requires the following documents:

A. Filled out and signed Sweden tourist visa application form

B. Original, signed Nigeria passport with at least 6 months of remaining validity.

C. Passport Photo: 2 Include a passport style photo, with a white background, taken within the last 6 months. You may also choose to upload a photo to your order for us to print. There is a surcharge associated with this service.

D. Itinerary. Copy of round trip tickets or itinerary.

E. Medical travel insurance (Schengen). with a minimum coverage of € 30,000 and validity for all Schengen states.

F. Bank Statement. Copies of bank statements from the past 3 months.

G. Employment Letter. A letter from your employer/school (on business letterhead, with contact details), stating that a leave of absence has been granted and that you will be returning to your current job. If you are self-employed, include a copy of your business license and tax return. If you are retired please submit proof of your retirement fund.

H. Hotel Reservations. Copy of the Hotel Reservations, OR

I. Personal Invitation. If visiting friends or family, you must provide letter of invitation with the contact information of the host and visitor, purpose and duration of the visit, confirmation of accommodation including the address, signature and date. You will also need to provide proof of the host's status in Sweden ie. copy of their Sweden passport's information page, or, if they are not a citizen of Sweden, copies of their Sweden residence permit and their national passport's information pages.

High proportion of women

Sixty percent of university students are women. Egalitarian aims are rewarded: the National Agency of Higher Education annually awards a prize to the university that best promotes equality. Among teachers, men still dominate, but the proportion of female instructors and professors is growing.
